This is a new summoning fantasy classic -- a story about the struggles of an ordinary high schooler with no magic or swords to wield. He can only use his ability to return to his own time of death.

STORY

Subaru Natsuki is a high schooler who suddenly finds himself warped into an alternate dimension on the way home from school. The plot seems all too familiar to him, and he believes he's now in possession of special powers, so he picks a fight with some ruffians only to find he has no secret abilities to speak of, and is pursued by the hoodlums. He is rescued by a silver-haired girl named Satella who is accompanied by the spirit of a cat. He decides to repay her gratitude by finding an item she has lost. Subaru finds clues in the slums, but he is attacked and dies. He awakens to find that time has turned back to where his story began. While suspicious of what this might mean, he decides to change course and skirt the place that just led to his demise.

SUGOI POINT

Most stories with plotlines about slipping into a different dimension involve the protagonist's life being "reset" as he gains unusual powers to use in the next world. In this work, the character is reincarnated only to find he does not have any drastic powers -- only the ability to return to his own time of death. This doesn't make him any stronger, but his new memories and knowledge remain, allowing him to get the jump on things before they happen. This plot device is reader-centric -- the reader knows what has come before, so they can predict how things will unfold, letting them get deeper into the story.
