Satoru Fujinuma is a youth who is afflicted by a phenomenon where time seems to rewind. In this suspense story, he seeks to find the truth about a case he gets involved in.
Satoru Fujinuma is a young manga cartoonist who has gotten started but fails to make a name for himself. He also finds himself vexed by a strange phenomenon known only to him -- a "revival" effect. Time rewinds to right before horrible acts occur. This loop continues until the cause of the accident is reversed. It is almost as if he is being obligated by some unseen force to prevent these occurrences. One day, following a certain incident, this revival phenomenon suddenly changes wildly. What will Satoru see when thrust into his own past? And what lies in wait in his future?
This suspense work is taken from a comic of the same name by Kei Sanbe. The complex setting involves the protagonist traveling between 1988 and 2006 to track the serial killer behind a series of kidnappings and murders. A dense plot and tension-packed drama, plus the finely-wrought psychological context of the characters, make for a powerful piece. The anime also was timed to conclude with the serialized comic (March 2016) without major changes to its storyline, a testament to the hard work by the animation team.
